It’s like their business—Davido makes U-turn on joining politics in Nigeria

Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said he is no longer enthusiastic about venturing into politics, pointing to the mixed fortunes of celebrities who have made similar transitions.

The Afrobeats singer made the remarks during a recent livestream on Twitch with streamer Davrel, where he reflected on his earlier political ambitions and the realities that have shaped his current stance.

According to Davido, observing the experiences of entertainers who moved into politics has made him more cautious about pursuing such a path.

He admitted that while he once had a strong interest in partisan politics, his successful music career and the perception of celebrities in governance have made him reconsider.

“Before, I wanted to go into politics, but honestly, now, I see it two ways. All my years of goodwill, my name and my career, all the hard work and the fan base we have built—it is tricky because of the way people look at things; the superstars that have gone into politics, the transition hasn’t really been successful,” he said.

“I feel like if you are a politician, you are a politician. It is like it is their business,” Davido added.
