Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, in charge of Zone 12 with headquarters in Bauchi, Audu Madaki, has sustained bullet wounds as suspected terrorists attacked their vehicle near Kwoi in Kaduna State.
The attack occurred on Tuesday when the AIG was traveling from Bauchi to Abuja in his staff without escort vehicles.
According to security sources who spoke to Daily Nigerian on the condition of anonymity, the attackers came in a Volkswagen Sharon and opened fire on the vehicle.
The sources said Mr Madaki sustained two bullet wounds on his leg, while his orderly was shot dead by the hoodlums.
A source said the AIG made the mistake of plying the dangerous road without his full convoy.
“He was wrong to travel through a very dangerous terrain without his convoy. He only travelled in his staff car with his driver, his escort commander and orderly.
“But for the gallantry of his escort commander who returned the fire, the situation would have been worse.
The police are yet to officially speak on the incident.
