….Increase in Non-state activities in NorthEast, NorthCentral

According to a report released to Nigerian Newssphere by ‘Beacon Intel’ on Wednesday, Nigeria insecurity seems to have deteriorated as the Country records 2505 total number of deaths, incidents and abductions across the Six Geo-political regions over menace of banditory, terrorism, kidnapping and other spate of security challenges.

In the 19 pages comprehensive report sent to Neewssphere by the Chief Executive Officer,
Beacon Security Consult, Dr.Kabiru Adamu revealed that NorthEast and North-Central recorded the highest deaths, incidents and Abduction.

Also, Newssphere gathered that insecurity perpetuated by non-states actors increased in NorthEast and North Central in the period under review.

According to Beacon Consult the report, “In the month of April 2022, we monitored a shift in the prevalence of incidents as they affected the Six (6) geopolitical regions, where we recorded increases in non-state actors’ activities in North East and North Central Nigeria, mainly.

“There was a continuation of the spate of targeted attacks in the SouthEast as well. We also monitored a continuation of the Federal and State Governments’ efforts to address the security challenges in the country using mainly security forces operations.

“We further monitored social upheaval associated with organised labour and students’ union grievances with the government as well as a violent clash between security forces and the government proscribed Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN). These are in addition to the ongoing Russia – Ukraine war, supply chain disruption, and the hike in commodity prices it triggered that has accentuated the structural deficiencies driving insecurity in Nigeria.

“In April 2022, the government’s efforts failed to significantly reduce the security incidents, fatalities and abductions compared with the figures for March 2022. Accordingly, in the fourth month of the year, we recorded 438 incidents that resulted in 633 abductions and 1434 fatalities. These affected 190 Local

Government Areas in 36 states plus the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. A month-to-month analysis of the changes in the figures recorded in March 2022 and April 2022 show marginal decreases of 10.5 % in abductions and 4.2% in fatalities. A comparison of the incidents that occurred in April 2021 and April 2022 shows a 78.7% rise(248-438), an 85 % increase in abductions (342 – 633), and a 44.8% increase in fatalities (990 – 1434)”, the report reads.
