…I am unaware of his sack- CBN Director Corporate Communications, Osita
An unconfirmed report on social media claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari has relieved the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN), Godwin Emefiele of his job.
However, when Nigerian Newssphere called the Director of Corporate Communications at CBN, Osita Nwanisobi on Wednesday afternoon around 1:01pm to confirm the report, he simply said he is unaware of such news.
Emefiele has been entrapped in a controversy surrounding his aspiration to be Nigeria’s president come 2023 after a coalition of Rice Farmers bought him All Progressives Party’s N100m presidential form.
Nigerian Newssphere reported that many Nigerians have criticised the Governor’s involvement in politics without resigning.
For instance, the Governor of Ondo State Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, in a personal statement released on May 7th urged President to sack Emefiele if he refuses to resign. The same position has been toed by economic experts, Legal luminaries and others.
In pursuit of clarity, Godwin approached the court for interpretation.
However, on Tuesday Emefiele has withdrawn a suit asking the federal high court in Abuja to declare him eligible to contest the 2023 presidential election.
Emefiele had, in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/610/2022 and filed on May 5, asked the court to declare him eligible to contest the presidential election.
The suit was filed two days before the CBN governor said he had not made up his mind to run for office of the president.
The court had thereafter summoned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the attorney-general of the federation (AGF) — listed as defendants — to appear before it to show cause why Emefiele’s request should not be granted.
In a recently viral news, some users on the microblogging site, Twitter claimed the Governor of CBN was sacked.

@Man of Letters:

The Naira lost over 70% of its value in the period he was the Governor of our Apex Bank.
@JJ.Omojuwa:
As at the last time I checked, the President cannot sack the CBN Governor. I’d love to be corrected by those who know better.
NEFERTITI:
If the reportage that says Buhari has finally sacked CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele is true, then it’s Great News. But he mustn’t stop there. Meffy must be investigated for corruption & for sabotaging a once burgeoning Economy. Start with the E-Naira & arbitrage in the FX Market.
