President Muhammadu Buhari has said some banks are simply inefficient and selfish as Nigerians continue to suffer from the currency crisis.
Buhari made this disclosure on Friday in a statement by Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity.
He spoke on the heels of the meeting with the Progressive Governors Forum at the Presidential Villa to seek solutions to the naira currency scarcity and cash crunch.
Buhari said he is optimistic about the long-term benefits of the Naira redesign while expressing doubts about banks’ commitment, particularly to the Naira redesign policy’s success.
He said if one year is added to the deadline of phasing out the old naira notes, Banks’ selfishness and greed will not go away.
“Some banks are inefficient and only concerned about themselves; even if a year is added, problems associated with selfishness and greed won’t disappear.”
He added that Nigerians should give him 7-day to tackle the imbroglio Nigerians face.
