Nollywood actor and filmmaker Stanley Amadi has been arrested in connection with an alleged foiled plot to forcibly remove President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from office.
According to Premium Times, Amadi, a former chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) in Enugu State, was taken into custody in September 2025 alongside several military officers suspected to be involved in the plot. However, details of his arrest only became public recently.
Security sources said Amadi was allegedly recruited to act as a propagandist for the group accused of planning the takeover. Investigators further claimed that the suspects discussed plans to target senior government officials, including President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas.
The Defense Headquarters on Monday confirmed that investigations had uncovered an attempt to unlawfully remove the current administration. It added that military officers linked to the case would face military judicial panels.
In a statement, the military said the investigation had been concluded and forwarded to the appropriate authorities in line with existing regulations. It noted that several officers were identified as having allegedly plotted against the government, describing their actions as a breach of military ethics and professional standards.
Earlier reports in October indicated that 16 military officers were under investigation, though the army initially said the probe was related to indiscipline and violations of service rules. Subsequent investigations reportedly led to the arrest of additional officers and civilians, including Amadi.
Sources said the suspects would be subjected to different legal processes based on their status, with military personnel expected to face court-martial, while civilians would be prosecuted in civil courts.
Amadi is a prominent figure in Nollywood, with credits as an actor, director, and production manager. His works include The Album, Tiger King, Cornerstone, and Once Upon a Dream. His last post on Instagram was on September 19, 2025, shortly before his arrest.
