Crystal Palace on Sunday evening needed penalties to beat Liverpool in this season’s Community Shield game.
It was Liverpool who got off to a flying start with debutant Hugo Ekitike scoring within four minutes.
But the Eagles were level shortly after from the penalty spot after Ismaila Sarr was fouled in the area. Jean-Philippe Mateta stepped up to send goalkeeper Alisson Becker the wrong way.
The Reds went in front almost immediately after Jeremie Frimpong’s cross dipped over Dean Henderson and into the net.
With a few minutes to play, Sarr ran through to make it 2-2 and send the game to penalties.
Henderson produced several remarkable saves as Crystal Palace added the Community Shield to the FA Cup trophy they won earlier in this year.
