Indications have emerged that President Bola Ahmed pressured his minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, to resign amid a certificate forgery scandal.
Nigerian Newssphere reports that Nnaji’s resignation was not voluntary.
This comes after presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, in a statement on Tuesday, said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Nnaji, the Nigerian minister from Enugu state.
“President Tinubu appointed Nnaji in August 2023.
“He resigned today in a letter thanking the President for allowing him to serve Nigeria.
“Nnaji said he has been a target of blackmail by political opponents.
“President Tinubu thanked him for his service and wished him well in future endeavours,” Onanuga stated in a statement on his X account.
However, sources close to the minister have confirmed to Nigeria Newssphere that Nnaji was forced by powers within the presidency to throw the tower.
“He was forced by powers within the presidency. “It is not a voluntary resignation,” the source told Nigerian Newssphere.
Meanwhile, Nnaji has not made any official statement after his resignation.
Nnaji has been the subject of discussion over his university certificate forgery scandal.
The dispute intensified after the Federal High Court in Enugu rejected Nnaji’s bid to stop the University of Nigeria from releasing his academic records.
