Former Chief of Staff to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Mustapha Bala Dawaki, has defected to the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC.
Dawaki, who previously represented Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, dumped the APC barely one week after losing the opportunity to contest again under the party’s platform following a consensus arrangement.
The development was confirmed on Monday by Saifullahi Hassan, media aide to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a prominent leader of the NDC and the Kwankwasiyya movement.
According to Hassan, Dawaki officially joined the opposition party during a meeting held at Kwankwaso’s Miller Road residence in Kano.
“Today, Leader Kwankwaso welcomed Mustapha Bala Dawaki, former Chief of Staff to the APC National Chairman, into the NDC Kwankwasiyya family,” Hassan wrote on his official Facebook page.
Dawaki’s defection comes amid ongoing consultations within the NDC over the selection of candidates for party tickets across Kano State through consensus arrangements.
However, it remains unclear whether the former lawmaker will automatically secure the party’s ticket for any elective position ahead of the next elections.
