Former Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Touré has described Nigeria’s Super Eagles as the most impressive team at the recent Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), praising their attacking quality and overall performance at the tournament.
Nigeria enjoyed an outstanding campaign, scoring 14 goals and conceding just four throughout the competition. The Super Eagles were particularly solid in the knockout stages, where they did not concede a single goal.
Touré also commended Morocco’s head coach, Walid Regragui, for his tactical approach, noting that the North African side was disciplined and effective on the counterattack.
“I’ve been really impressed with the team Walid Regragui is coaching. He is very practical and straightforward, with a strong focus on counterattacks,” Touré said.
However, the former Barcelona star maintained that Nigeria stood out above the rest, stressing that the Super Eagles boast the two best players in African football.
“I was really impressed with Nigeria. They play good football, and when you look at the statistics, they scored more goals than usual,” he added.
“It felt like a full attacking team, playing really attractive football. What impressed me most was the way Nigeria played and the number of goals they scored. They won games because they had the two top African players in their squad.”
Touré noted that despite their strong performances, the Super Eagles were eliminated by Morocco in the semi-finals.
Nigeria went on to claim the bronze medal, defeating Egypt 4–2 on penalties after the third-place playoff ended in a draw at regulation time.
