Three nations—Botswana, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon—have been knocked out of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after failing to pick up a single point in the group stage.
Although each team still has one group match remaining this week, their exits have already been confirmed due to results elsewhere in their groups.
Botswana sits at the bottom of Group D with zero points following back-to-back defeats. The Zebras opened their campaign with a 3–0 loss to Senegal before falling 1–0 to the Benin Republic. Despite having a final fixture against DR Congo on Tuesday, Botswana can no longer progress.
Equatorial Guinea has also been eliminated from Group E after two narrow losses. They were beaten 2–1 by Burkina Faso in their opener and then lost 1–0 to Sudan, leaving them without a point from two matches.
In Group F, Gabon crashed out after consecutive defeats. They lost 1–0 to Cameroon in their first game and were edged 3–2 by Mozambique in their second outing. Rooted to the bottom of the group, Gabon are mathematically out of contention and will face Ivory Coast on Wednesday in a match that will now be for pride only.
