‘Supreme bandit’—Sheikh Gumi slams Trump over US military capture of Venezuela’s President Maduro

Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has reacted to the reported capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife by the United States under President Donald Trump.

In a veiled comment shared on his Facebook page on Saturday, Gumi described the action as “supreme banditry,” stating that such forces “do not attack villages; they attack nations and kidnap leaders.” The remark was widely interpreted as a criticism of President Trump’s actions.

Gumi, who has consistently been outspoken against Trump, has in the past criticized the former US president’s military posture, including what he described as interference in Nigeria’s internal affairs.

Nigerian Newsphere recalls that Trump earlier on Saturday announced the capture of Maduro and his wife in a post on his Truth Social account.

The development comes months after the United States government increased the reward for information leading to Maduro’s arrest to $50 million, accusing him of involvement in international drug trafficking.
