Edo state Police command has arrested Amadin William, the prime suspect in the killing of a Europe-based man, Eghosa Osarietinomwan, in the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this to journalists on Sunday in Benin City. She confirmed that the suspect has been taken into custody, adding that two other persons were also arrested in connection with the arson that followed the incident.
According to Ikoedem, Osarietinomwan sustained deep machete cuts to the neck after stepping out during his housewarming ceremony. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.
She explained that the suspect fled the scene after the attack and went into hiding but was tracked and arrested on December 27. “Meanwhile, two other persons have been arrested in connection with the arson that followed the incident,” she said.
DAILY POST gathered that the incident occurred on December 22 in Oben community, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State. The suspect was said to be the deceased’s childhood friend.
It was alleged that the suspect lured Osarietinomwan into a bush path during the housewarming ceremony, where he reportedly attacked him with a machete before fleeing the community. He was later apprehended in Benin City.
The deceased had reportedly returned from Europe to celebrate the Yuletide with his family before the tragic incident. Following the killing, angry youths in the community allegedly set the suspect’s house ablaze.
