By-election: DSS, Police nab ‘vote buyer’ with N25.9m in Kaduna

Operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS and the police have arrested suspected vote buyer with cash totalling N25,963,000 in Kaduna metropolis.

It was gathered that the suspect identified as Shehu Aliyu Patangi, was apprehended around 3:30am on Saturday morning ahead of the by-election scheduled to take place in some parts of the state.

The Spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect had during interrogation, confessed to the crime but pleaded for leniency.

“The suspect was arrested with the said amount, believed to have been earmarked for bribing voters. He confessed to the crime and begged for mercy.

“We wish to reiterate that anyone found attempting to undermine the electoral process will face the full wrath of the law,” the command’s spokesperson said in a statement.

According to him, the command, through the Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad has warned political actors and their supporters to desist from violence and acts capable of disrupting the bye-elections.

Earlier, the Police imposed movement  restriction on four Local Government Areas in Kaduna State over State and National Assembly bye elections on Saturday, August 16th 2025.
