BREAKING: Police arrest 46 over attack on Peter Obi’s convoy in Benue

The Benue State Police Command has arrested 46 suspects in connection with the attack on the convoy of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The Commissioner of Police, Nwadiogbu, disclosed that the investigation into the incident is ongoing, while security operatives are also trailing some key leaders allegedly linked to the attack.

He warned that the command would not tolerate political intolerance or violence in the state as the 2027 general elections approach.

According to the commissioner, the police would take all necessary steps to identify everyone involved in the incident and ensure that those found culpable are prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The arrests followed an incident in which Obi’s convoy was reportedly blocked by angry youths during his visit to Benue State as part of his campaign activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Obi was also scheduled to visit Yelewata to meet with and commiserate with victims of the June 2025 attacks.

However, tension reportedly erupted a few metres from the airport when Obi’s convoy encountered a roadblock mounted by youths on the two-lane Makurdi-Gboko Federal Highway.

The development disrupted the movement of the convoy and triggered a confrontation before security operatives intervened.
