The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has come under public scrutiny following a viral video in which she was seen laughing after being asked about calls for her resignation amid concerns over counterfeit food and drugs.
The controversial moment occurred during a recent NAFDAC press briefing convened to address the reported proliferation of suspected fake yoghurt, adulterated palm oil and counterfeit beverages in Nigerian markets.
During the briefing, a journalist raised the issue of growing public demands for Adeyeye to resign over concerns about the agency’s handling of the situation.
Adeyeye reportedly responded with laughter, a reaction that has triggered criticism on social media.
Several Nigerians who reacted to the video described the response as insensitive, particularly given the potential public health implications of counterfeit and adulterated food and pharmaceutical products.
