At least 13 people have been confirmed dead, while several others remain missing after suspected herdsmen attacked Efeyi community in Ugboju, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The assailants reportedly stormed the community on Tuesday, opening fire on residents and triggering panic as many fled for safety.
Sources told Nigerian Newssphere that 13 bodies have so far been recovered from the community, while search and rescue efforts are ongoing to locate those still unaccounted for.
The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents linked to suspected armed herdsmen in parts of Benue State, raising fresh concerns over insecurity in the region.
When contacted for confirmation, the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, Edet Udeme, said she was yet to receive full details of the incident but promised to provide an update after obtaining more information.
