2026 World Cup: We messed up for the second time- Kai Havertz apologizes after Paraguay eliminates Germany

Kai Havertz has expressed his disappointment following Germany’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a penalty shootout defeat to Paraguay.

Germany were knocked out in the Round of 32 after losing 4-3 on penalties, with the match ending 1-1 after regulation time.

Julio Enciso gave Paraguay the lead before Havertz restored parity with a headed equaliser to force the game into a shootout.

However, the Arsenal F.C. forward endured a disappointing moment as his opening penalty was saved. Nick Woltemade also had his spot-kick stopped, while Jonathan Tah blasted his effort over the crossbar, sealing Germany’s exit.

Speaking after the match, Havertz admitted the result was another painful setback for the national team.

“I’m speechless. My second World Cup, and we’ve messed up for the second time,” Havertz said.

“The last few tournaments were a disaster. The only thing I can say is I’m sorry.

“We players need to take a long, hard look at ourselves. We’re playing for a huge country with a rich football history.”
