President Bola Tinubu has approved a fresh six-month tenure extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi.
The approval was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Adeniyi’s tenure had previously been extended by one year in 2025 and was due to end on August 1, 2026. The new extension will keep him in office until February 2027.
According to Onanuga, the additional six months will allow the Customs chief to consolidate the implementation of the National Single Window initiative and facilitate a smooth leadership transition within the service.
During the extension period, Adeniyi is expected to work closely with the NCS Board to oversee the promotion of qualified officers to the rank of Comptroller of Customs. He will also supervise the compulsory retirement of officers who have reached the age of 60 or completed 35 years of service.
Adeniyi joined the Nigeria Customs Service after graduating from Obafemi Awolowo University in the late 1980s and has risen through the ranks to become the agency’s highest-ranking officer.
