Spanish giants Real Madrid have confirmed that their €150 million offer for Julian Alvarez has been rejected by city rivals Atletico Madrid.
Alvarez, one of the most sought-after players in the summer transfer window, has been linked with a move away from Atletico, prompting Real Madrid to enter the race for the 26-year-old striker.
The move follows a pledge by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to pursue a major “Galactico” signing.
In a statement issued after a Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday, Real Madrid confirmed the bid and Atletico’s response.
“Real Madrid CF announces that, following today’s Board of Directors meeting, it has made an offer of 150 million euros to Club Atletico de Madrid for the federative rights of the player Julian Álvarez.
“After studying and evaluating it, Atletico de Madrid has thanked the club for the offer, made within the framework of the good relations existing between both clubs, and has rejected it, referring to the player’s release clause.”
