A fresh twist has emerged in the controversy surrounding the leadership of the Minority Caucus in the Nigeria’s House of Representatives, as the lawmaker representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency of Imo State, Ikenga Ugochinyere, released a video purportedly showing the House Deputy Spokesperson, Philip Agbese, signing his endorsement form for the position of Minority Leader.
The video, reportedly recorded on May 21, 2026, shows Agbese signing two separate documents said to be endorsement forms backing Ugochinyere’s bid for the minority leadership position in the Green Chamber.
The development comes barely a day after Agbese raised a point of personal privilege during plenary, alleging that his signature had been forged on a document nominating Ugochinyere as minority leader.
Earlier reports indicated that 61 members of the Minority Caucus appended their signatures to support Ugochinyere, a member of the Action People’s Party (APP), for the position.
Addressing lawmakers during Thursday’s plenary session, Agbese denied endorsing Ugochinyere and maintained that the publication of the nomination document bearing his signature violated his rights as a member of the caucus.
“Yesterday I saw a document on the internet with my name reportedly nominating a member of this House for the post of minority leader,” Agbese told the House.
However, Ugochinyere has now countered the forgery allegation by releasing the video, which he says captures the moment Agbese personally signed the endorsement forms.
The video has since sparked reactions as the dispute over the minority leadership position continues to generate debate within the House of Representatives.
