Nigerian music star Davido has engaged in a heated exchange on social media after urging entertainers to speak out against injustice and the challenges facing the country.
The singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, shared a post on his official page expressing concern over the state of the nation and admitting that celebrities, including himself, have not done enough to address issues affecting Nigerians.
“I can’t lie, we entertainers… we mess up, including me. We need to speak up. There is too much injustice going on. Our country has gone downhill,” Davido wrote.
His comments sparked mixed reactions online, with one social media user, identified as Princess Luna, questioning the sincerity of his remarks.
In a strongly worded response, the user accused the singer of being disingenuous and dismissed his comments as performative.
Davido, however, rejected the accusation, insisting that he is not affiliated with any political group and has consistently voiced concerns about governance issues.
“I am not part of any City Boy group. When I criticized the government on American media platforms, many of you insulted me for it,” he replied.
The award-winning singer further stated that his friendship with a political figure does not stop him from expressing concerns directly when necessary.
“I have been friends with ST for years, and that is where it ends. I call and complain to him all the time, even in person,” Davido added.
The exchange has since generated widespread reactions on social media, with users divided over the singer’s comments and his role in speaking out on national issues.
