2027: Makinde is desperate for VP slot with Atiku—Wike’s spokesperson

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of aggressively pursuing a vice-presidential position ahead of future elections.

Olayinka claimed that Makinde’s alleged desperation follows his diminished influence within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleging that the governor has resorted to inflammatory rhetoric.

In a post shared on X, Olayinka described Makinde as “politically isolated,” warning against statements he said could incite unrest. He further alleged that the governor was seeking to revive a culture of political violence reminiscent of the South-West’s “Operation Wetie” era of the 1960s.

According to Olayinka, Makinde failed in several political efforts within the state and the party, including attempts to consolidate control of the PDP and influence key traditional and political processes in Oyo State.

He also questioned the handling of funds reportedly allocated for victims of the Bodija explosion in Ibadan, alleging that the governor had yet to provide a full account of the money.

Olayinka further claimed that Makinde is now turning to alternative political platforms in pursuit of a vice-presidential ticket, warning that any call for violence by public office holders carries serious consequences.
