Nigerian senator Lamido dumps APC, set to join ADC

The senator representing Sokoto East Senatorial District, Ibrahim Lamido, has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing a prolonged internal crisis within the party in Sokoto State.

In a resignation letter dated April 22, 2026, and addressed to the APC Chairman of Isa South Ward in the Isa Local Government Area, Lamido said his decision followed deep concerns over the party’s leadership and internal divisions in the state.

He noted that the move was not taken lightly but became necessary due to what he described as ongoing leadership disputes, mistrust, and an unfair style of party management that made it difficult for him to remain.

According to the lawmaker, persistent divisions, lack of cohesion, and unresolved conflicts have undermined the unity and progress the party once represented in Sokoto State.

Lamido expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve within the APC, wishing the party success in resolving its challenges and rebuilding unity.

Meanwhile, indications suggest the senator is set to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as he prepares to continue his political career under a new platform.
