Iran has announced that the Strait of Hormuz is now fully open to all commercial vessels for the duration of an ongoing ceasefire.
The country’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Aragchi, disclosed the development, noting that the move aligns with the ceasefire arrangement involving Lebanon.
Reacting to the announcement, US President Donald Trump welcomed the decision. Posting on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Iran has just announced that the Strait of Iran is fully open and ready for full passage. Thank you!”
Despite the reopening, Iran’s deputy foreign minister insisted that Tehran does not support a temporary ceasefire. According to him, the country is pushing for a comprehensive resolution to the conflict across the region.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that celebrations have erupted in parts of Lebanon following the announcement of a 10-day ceasefire aimed at facilitating negotiations between Israeli and Lebanese officials.
The ceasefire comes after intense military activity, with Israeli forces carrying out heavy bombardments in southern Lebanon just hours before the truce took effect on Thursday night.
