Aloy Ejimakor, legal consultant to incarcerated leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has said terrorists are incapable of genuine repentance or rehabilitation.
Ejimakor made the assertion in a post on his verified X handle on Friday, urging the federal government to halt what he described as “self-deception.”
He was reacting to reports on the planned rehabilitation and reintegration of former Boko Haram members who have reportedly renounced violence.
Nigerian Newssphere recalls that over 700 “repentant” terrorists have been declared ready for reintegration into society after undergoing deradicalization and rehabilitation.
According to African Independent Television (AIT), the Coordinator of Operation Safe Corridor, Brigadier-General Yusuf Ali, disclosed this during a media tour of the Deradicalization, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration Centre in Gombe, Northeast Nigeria.
Reacting, Ejimakor insisted that the program is misguided, arguing that terrorists only feign repentance when captured.
“Stop the self-deception. Terrorists don’t repent and can’t be rehabilitated,” he wrote.
“Terrorism is a radical religious/political doctrine that admits of no repentance or rehabilitation. When caught, terrorists simply fold and pretend so that they can infiltrate and do more harm from inside.”
