The Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, has alleged attempts by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, and former First Lady of the state, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, to influence the Speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, in connection with a purported plan to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde.
Oyekola made the allegations in a statement issued on Tuesday, where he clarified his position and distanced himself from the reported impeachment plot.
According to the lawmaker, the alleged scheme came to light after a key meeting revealed that certain individuals were working to create a rift between the House of Assembly and the governor.
He claimed that the Speaker had earlier sought the support of the Olubadan for his 2027 governorship ambition and was subsequently invited for a meeting. During the engagement, Oyekola alleged that the monarch advised the Speaker and offered to facilitate a House of Representatives ticket for him under the All Progressives Congress (APC), alongside financial support. He, however, stated that the Speaker declined the offer.
Oyekola further alleged that Mrs. Ajimobi also approached the Speaker on a similar matter, offering him money, which he reportedly rejected.
The Chief Whip maintained that the Speaker did not accept any form of inducement and reaffirmed his own opposition to any move aimed at destabilizing the state government.
