Panic gripped residents of the Mbalom community in the Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State on Easter Sunday following an attack by suspected armed bandits.
The attackers reportedly stormed the community, killing several residents in the process.
Sources said more than 17 bodies have so far been recovered, while many others remain unaccounted for. A number of houses were also destroyed during the assault.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to contact the State Police Public Relations Officer, Udeme Edet, were unsuccessful, as calls to his phone went unanswered
