Suspected political thugs on Saturday attacked local government congresses organized by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in Oyo State.
It was gathered that the party in the state is currently divided into two factions—one aligned with Wike and the other loyal to the state governor, Seyi Makinde.
The Nigerian news sphere learned that the Wike-aligned faction had scheduled its local government congresses to be held across the state on Saturday. However, the meetings were reportedly disrupted by hoodlums believed to be political thugs who attacked participants during the exercise.
Sources disclosed that about 10 people were assaulted in the attacks, while several vehicles were vandalized.
Chairman of the faction loyal to Wike, Abdulrahman Akinoso, confirmed the incident during a telephone conversation with DAILY POST on Saturday afternoon.
Akinoso stated that the attacks occurred in several local government areas, including Ibadan North, Ogbomoso South, Igboora in Ibarapa Central, and Akinyele.
According to him, multiple vehicles were damaged during the disruption.
“Our local government congresses were attacked across Oyo State—Ibadan North, Ogbomoso South, Igboora (Ibarapa Central), and Akinyele. Three vehicles were vandalized in Ibadan North at Gbolarumi House, Are Avenue, Bodija. About 10 people were attacked across the state,” he said.
