United States President Donald Trump on Sunday asserted that American military forces have destroyed and sunk at least nine Iranian naval vessels amid ongoing strikes on the country.
In a post shared on Facebook, Trump said he had been briefed on the operation, stating that several of the targeted ships were “relatively large and important.” He also disclosed that Iran’s naval headquarters had suffered significant damage since military action commenced on Saturday.
“I have just been informed that we have destroyed and sunk nine Iranian naval ships, some of them relatively large and important,” the president wrote.
He further indicated that operations were continuing, declaring that U.S. forces were “going after the rest,” and adding that the remaining vessels would “soon be floating at the bottom of the sea.”
The development comes less than 24 hours after Trump announced that U.S. airstrikes had resulted in the deaths of several Iranian leaders, marking a sharp escalation in hostilities.
