The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has approved the appointment of Peter Akpe as the new Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State.
The confirmation was granted during plenary on Tuesday, paving the way for Akpe to assume office.
His appointment follows the death of the former Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who reportedly slumped and died in December 2025. He was laid to rest on January 30, 2026, in his hometown of Ofoni, Sagbama Local Government Area.
Before his nomination, Akpe, a pastor, served as Chief of Staff to Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri.
