Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), has reportedly collapsed and was rushed to hospital in Abuja.
The incident occurred on Tuesday near his office, according to his media aide, Emmanuel Nweke. He said Maina lost consciousness after slipping while attempting to enter the premises.
Nweke explained that the fall was linked to complications from a long-standing knee injury that had not been treated, causing him to lose balance on the staircase and hit his head.
Medical personnel at the scene reportedly administered first aid before Maina was taken to a private hospital in Abuja for further treatment.
“He is currently receiving close medical attention and remains under observation,” the aide said, adding that doctors have advised that an air ambulance medical evacuation may be considered if his condition does not stabilize.
Nweke noted that Maina’s family and medical team are monitoring his progress and appealed to the public for prayers, understanding, and respect for privacy.
Maina was recently released from the Kuje Correctional Centre after serving a jail term following his conviction over pension-related fraud. He was found guilty by a Federal High Court in Abuja in November 2021 on charges of money laundering involving N2 billion.
