Former Abia State Commissioner for Information and Strategy Don Ubani has accused Governor Alex Otti of concentrating development projects in his ancestral local government area while neglecting other parts of the state.
Ubani made the allegation on Wednesday during an interview on The Morning Brief, a programme aired on Channels Television, where he spoke on issues surrounding governance in Abia State.
The former commissioner claimed that Governor Otti has failed to fulfill campaign promises made to Ukwa West Local Government Area, which he described as the only oil-producing LGA in the state at present.
“I am an indigene of Ukwa West LGA of Abia State, the only oil-producing local government area in Abia State for now,” Ubani said. “So far, nothing substantial has happened in the local government.”
According to him, Otti had promised during his 2022 campaign to relocate the headquarters of the Abia State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (ASOPADEC) from Umuahia to Ukwa West, but the pledge has not been implemented.
Ubani further alleged that while more than 20 roads have been constructed in the governor’s ancestral local government area, no road project has been carried out in Ukwa West.
His comments come amid claims of a growing political alliance among some former state leaders against the incumbent administration.
Recall that a former governor of the state, Orji Uzor Kalu, had recently vowed to work against Governor Otti’s re-election bid.
