The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has unveiled a revised timetable for the 2027 general elections, moving the presidential and National Assembly polls to January 16, 2027.
The electoral umpire also announced that governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will now be held on February 6, 2027.
Under the earlier schedule, the presidential and National Assembly elections were fixed for February 20, 2027, while governorship and state assembly polls were set for March 6, 2027.
INEC said the adjustment became necessary following the repeal of the Electoral Act, 2022, and the enactment of the new Electoral Act, 2026, which prompted a review of the election calendar.
Nigerian Newssphere recalls that INEC had earlier announced February 2027 as date for the elections.
