A renowned scholar and trailblazer in Nigerian media academia, Professor Sandra Ladi Adamu of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has passed away at the age of 67.
Her death was confirmed on Wednesday by her colleague, Associate Professor Muhammad Hashim Suleiman, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, through a post on his official Facebook page.
According to reports gathered by Nigerian Newssphere, Prof. Ladi Adamu, who was the first female professor of broadcasting in Northern Nigeria, died after a prolonged battle with breast cancer.
Her passing has plunged the ABU community, particularly the Mass Communication Department, as well as her students and alumni, into deep mourning.
Tributes have continued to pour in for the late academic, described by many as a “mother, mentor, and media icon.”
Born on January 17, 1958, in Plateau State, Prof. Ladi Adamu dedicated decades of her life to teaching, research, and mentoring in the field of communication and media studies.
