UCL: It baffles me – McManaman gives reason Barcelona won’t win title after PSG defeat

Former Real Madrid player Steve McManaman has warned Barcelona that their manager Hansi Flick’s tactics could prevent them from winning the Champions League title this season after they were beaten by holders Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.

McManaman said he was baffled by Barcelona’s decision to play high on the halfway line against PSG during the closing stage of the encounter.

According to him, the LaLiga champions, who reached the semi-final of the Champions League title, won’t win the competition if they don’t change their tactics.

Recall that Ferran Torres gave Barcelona the lead before Senny Mayulu equalized for the visitors before half-time

The match looked set to end all square at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, but PSG took advantage of Barcelona’s high line late on to snatch a winner through Goncalo Ramos.

Speaking on TNT Sports, McManaman insisted that the Blaugrana caused their defeat against the French Ligue 1 champions.

“It’s self-inflicted from Barcelona,” McManaman said.

“Why on earth in the last minute of normal time are you playing that high on the halfway line? It baffles me.

“If they don’t sort this out they won’t win this competition because you cannot play like this. It’s an awful goal to concede at any level.

“It’s so late on in the game and they are taking those chances. Look how high they are, look at the disorganisation.”
