Nigerians from different civil societies and coalitions have expressed varying stances over the recent call for resignation of the Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Bayo Ojulari.
This comes barely four months after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Ojulari to steer the affairs of NNPCL.
In a shocking revelation on Thursday, Ojulari confirmed that he and the state-owned oil firm are under attack.
“We are under attack. It is real,” he told the leadership of the Petroleum & Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), who paid him a visit in Abuja recently.

Protest calling for Ojulari’s resignation
His apprehension comes amid sustained protest calling for his resignation in the last few weeks.
Recall that on Wednesday, 27th August 2025, a group of Niger Delta youths protested at NNPCL towers, demanding the resignation of Ojulari over allegations of corruption and mismanagement.
Agents of Sabotage- Iteveh on call for Ojulari resignation
However, a popular Nigerian activist and leader of the Coalition of Niger Delta People for Development (CONFODEV), Nurudeen Iteveh, has kicked against the attack and called for the removal of the Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Bayo Ojulari.
“Those calling for Mr. Ojulari’s sack have exposed themselves as agents of sabotage,” he said in a statement.
Enemies of NNPCL won’t win—Ojulari
Meanwhile, Ojulari had absolved himself from all allegations, saying that enemies of NNPCL and Nigeria will not win.
According to him, the company under his leadership is committed to reshaping the country’s oil and gas landscape.
He reiterated that the Port Harcourt, Kaduna, and Warri refineries will work sustainably after NNPCL has concluded its review.
“The enemies of this company and Nigerians will not win.
“Mr. President doesn’t pressure me to do the wrong thing. That is why we are looking at the baseline to ensure, whatever we are doing, the refineries work sustainably going forward. We don’t want to pretend and just do some quick fix because there is pressure on us,” Ojulari added.
“The enemies of this company and Nigerians will not win,” he said.
NNPCL’s Ojulari leadership had in May 2025 announced the shutdown of the Port Harcourt refinery.
