2027 Presidency: INEC reacts to claims of Atiku’s removal from presidential ballot

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said it is untrue that the electoral umpire has removed the name of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, from its list of cleared candidates for the January 16, 2027, presidential election.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, disclosed this exclusively to Nigerian Newssphere in an interview on Saturday.

His clarification comes amid speculation following the recent Federal High Court judgment removing the ADC leadership led by former Senate President David Mark.

The court’s judgment had thrown a spanner in the works of Atiku’s presidential bid.

Although David Mark’s leadership of the ADC had opposed the Federal High Court ruling and appealed the judgment, with a copy of the appeal sent to INEC, speculation persists that Atiku and his running mate have been removed by the electoral umpire.

However, Haruna dismissed the claim as untrue.

“It is untrue,” Haruna told Nigerian Newssphere.

He further said that INEC was yet to receive a court judgment ordering Atiku’s removal, according to DAILY POST.

Atiku, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, also said he remains in the presidential race.
