Ebola: Tinubu, APC more dangerous than disease facing Nigerians – Adebayo

The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, as a more dangerous disease facing Nigerians than Ebola.

Adebayo made this disclosure at a dinner with journalists on Sunday.

When asked about his reaction to the Ebola outbreak and concerns that it could be used to justify the cancellation of the upcoming presidential election, Adebayo said the disease had not yet reached epidemic status in Nigeria, arguing that there was no basis for such an argument.

According to him, poverty and insecurity pose greater endemic threats to Nigerians than Ebola.

Adebayo noted that the greatest gift and opportunity Nigerians have is the chance to go to the polls on January 16, 2027, to vote out the Tinubu-led government.

He warned the Tinubu administration against using the Ebola outbreak to intimidate voters ahead of the forthcoming elections.

“The greatest gift you can give in support of Nigerian health is to go to the polls, vote out the APC, because that is the largest ailment, the chronic ailment facing Nigeria.

“Now, on our campaign, we observe all health protocols, and we will do our best to go around the country. But there is no intimidation of Ebola in it. We will tell Nigerian citizens to be watchful, follow all the Ebola protocols and wash their hands regularly,” he said.

This comes amid concerns raised by opposition parties that the Tinubu administration may use the resurgence of Ebola in October 2026 as a means of intimidating opposition parties and their supporters ahead of the elections.

Recall that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, had announced a case of Ebola in Nigeria. On Sunday, the agency announced two additional cases in Abuja, while Rivers State recorded its latest case, according to the information provided.
