Fuel Price: Amaechi vows to dump Atiku, support Tinubu conditionally

The Vice Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has vowed to withdraw from the party’s presidential ticket and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu if the price of petrol drops to N600 per litre.

Amaechi made the declaration on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday while challenging the Federal Government’s claim that falling fuel prices would lead to lower transportation and living costs.

He questioned whether the cost of transportation from Nyanya to Abuja had reduced as promised, insisting that Nigerians were yet to experience any significant relief from the government’s policies.

“Every day he repeats the same thing. He said by October 1, the price of transport would come down. Check the cost of transport from Nyanya to Abuja; has anything come down? Has anything changed?” he said.

Amaechi said he would personally campaign for Tinubu if petrol sells for N600 per litre.

“If fuel has come down to N600 tomorrow, I will campaign for President Tinubu. If you doubt, come with your camera to my house in the morning. I will go to the filling station and buy fuel,” he said.

The former Rivers State governor further pledged to relinquish his position as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate and back Tinubu if the price of petrol reaches N600 per litre.

“If it comes down to N600, I, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, will withdraw as the Vice Presidential candidate of Atiku and campaign for President Tinubu,” he added.
