France Football, organisers of the Ballon d’Or, has confirmed that a player can win more than one award at the 2026 ceremony.
The organisers made this known in a statement on Wednesday while clarifying the rules governing the various award categories.
According to France Football, the voting process and nominees for each category are conducted separately, meaning players nominated in multiple categories are eligible to win more than one trophy.
“The answer is yes: a player can, in fact, win more than one award at the same ceremony.
“The voting and the nominees for each category are entirely separate,” the statement read in part.
France Football added that although no player has achieved the feat in the history of the Ballon d’Or, there is no rule preventing a nominee from winning multiple awards at the same ceremony.
Four players have been nominated in two categories ahead of the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony.
They are:
Lamine Yamal – Men’s Ballon d’Or and Young Talent of the Year.
Pau Cubarsí – Men’s Ballon d’Or and Young Talent of the Year.
Cata Coll – Women’s Ballon d’Or and Goalkeeper of the Year.
Lorena – Women’s Ballon d’Or and Goalkeeper of the Year.
If any of the four players wins in both categories, they would become the first player in Ballon d’Or history to claim two awards at the same ceremony.
