Former Chelsea midfielder Jody Morris has urged the Blues to part ways with Enzo Fernandez if the Argentine midfielder remains keen on leaving Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window.
Morris said Chelsea should cash in on Fernandez rather than keep an unhappy player at the club, insisting any sale should only happen if the Blues receive a suitable offer.
Fernandez, who joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2023, has been linked with a move to Real Madrid after reportedly expressing doubts over his long-term future in west London.
The 25-year-old was suspended for two matches by Chelsea in April after reportedly revealing his desire to live in Madrid and hinting at a possible move to the LaLiga giants.
Despite the speculation, Chelsea are said to be unwilling to sanction his departure unless they receive an offer of around £120 million.
Speaking to BoyleSports, Morris maintained that no player should be forced to remain at the club against their wishes.
“If someone doesn’t want to pay that price for a player, then he stays. Enzo was one of the few Chelsea players last season who could earn a passing grade, and there were not many who did,” Morris said.
“My consistent stance is: if someone doesn’t want to stay at the club, let him go. Letting him go doesn’t mean letting him leave cheaply.
“If someone doesn’t want to stay at Chelsea, I would rather they leave, regardless of their performance or how much you like the player.
“I think most coaches or managers would have the same view. Owners would be different because they have to consider value for money”.
Nigerian Newssphere reports that Fernandez is Lionel Messi teammate in Argentina at the just concluded 2026 World Cup.
