Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States, Kayode Are, has said President Bola Tinubu could visit the US before the end of his tenure as ambassador.
Are noted that any presidential visit would depend on Tinubu’s schedule and other contingencies, expressing optimism that the trip could also provide an opportunity for the Nigerian leader to meet US President Donald Trump.
Speaking during an interview with Channels Television’s Inside Sources hosted by Laolu Akande, the ambassador said there was already a strong level of engagement between both countries despite the absence of a physical meeting between the two presidents.
“The relationship between the two, I’m sure we will be able to get that done one way or the other. Of course, the itinerary of a president determines where he goes and where he can’t go,” Are said.
He added, “That is part of the process of what the US-Nigeria engagement will hope to achieve. Right now, there is a good level of contact and engagement from top to bottom, even if you have not seen them together physically. There is a good level of engagement that is going on.
“So, I would hope that during my tenure, a presidential visit would be possible. It would give me the greatest joy to receive my president, and I know many Nigerians would be happy. But that depends on contingencies.”
