2026 World Cup: Ivory Coast Striker Wahi Barred from entering Canada for Germany clash

Ivory Coast have suffered a major setback ahead of their second Group E match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after striker Elye Wahi was denied entry into Canada.

According to The Athletic, Canadian authorities refused Wahi a visa due to an ongoing investigation into alleged match-fixing, a matter that reportedly contravenes the country’s immigration regulations.

The Elephants are scheduled to face Germany in a crucial Group E encounter at the Toronto Stadium.

Ivory Coast began their World Cup campaign on a positive note, securing a 1-0 victory over Ecuador in their opening match.

Wahi’s visa rejection comes shortly after Canadian authorities also denied entry to Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey over sexual assault allegations involving the former Arsenal player.

As a result, Partey missed Ghana’s 1-0 victory against Panama earlier this week at the World Cup.
