BREAKING: Court rejects Sowore’s Submission in DSS cyberbullying trial against Tinubu

Justice Mohammed Garba Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed the no-case submission filed by activist Omoyele Sowore in the cyberbullying charges brought against him by the Department of State Services (DSS) over alleged comments about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a ruling delivered on Friday, Justice Umar held that the DSS had established a prima facie case against Sowore and sufficiently linked him to the alleged offenses to warrant him entering a defense.

The court subsequently ordered Sowore to open his defense in the two-count charge filed against him.

The DSS had accused the activist of cyberbullying the president by allegedly referring to Tinubu as a “criminal” on his X (formerly Twitter) handle.

Sowore had earlier urged the court to discharge and acquit him, arguing in his no-case submission that the prosecution failed to establish evidence connecting him to the alleged offenses.

However, Justice Umar dismissed the application, ruling that the prosecution had presented enough evidence for the matter to proceed to the defense stage.
