Arsenal secured a place in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals after holding Sporting CP to a goalless draw at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Gunners progressed on aggregate, having edged the first leg 1-0 in Portugal courtesy of a late strike from Kai Havertz. Despite a lively contest in London, both sides struggled to convert their chances, with efforts hitting the woodwork but neither team finding the breakthrough.
Mikel Arteta’s side will now face Atletico Madrid, who knocked out Barcelona in their quarter-final clash.
In another last-eight encounter, Bayern Munich eliminated Real Madrid with a 4-3 victory at the Allianz Arena. The German champions had already claimed a 1-0 win in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu, sealing their progression with a strong aggregate performance.
Bayern Munich will take on Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals as they aim for a place in the final.
