Justice Hussaini Belgore of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has stepped down from presiding over the fundamental human rights enforcement suit filed by former Kaduna StateGovernor Nasirr El-Rufai, citing his impending leave.
Following his withdrawal, the case file has been returned to the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court for reassignment to another judge.
El-Rufai had approached the court to challenge what he described as violations of his fundamental rights. The suit specifically references alleged actions by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), including a claimed unlawful invasion of his Abuja residence.
The case also involves other security and anti-graft agencies, such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS), in relation to ongoing legal matters concerning the former governor.
With Justice Belgore’s withdrawal, proceedings in the matter have been put on hold pending reassignment by the Chief Judge.
