The United States Embassy in Lagos has explained the reason for the revocation of Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka’s visa.
In response to an inquiry on Soyinka’s visa revocation, the Public Diplomacy Officer, US Department of State, US Consulate General, Lagos, Julia McKay, said visas are a privilege, not a right.
According to him, every country, including the US, can determine who enters its borders.
He noted that visa revocation is at the discretion of the US government whenever the circumstances warrant.
“Visas are a privilege, not a right. Every country, including the United States, has the authority to determine who enters its borders. Visas may be revoked at any time, at the discretion of the U.S. government, whenever circumstances warrant.”
This comes as Wole Soynka recently announced that his US visa has been revoked.
